Well, to apply for this visa a candidate needs to get the nomination from State or territory government agency in Australia.

There are some Australian States, i.e. South Australia, Canberra, Western Australia, Victoria, etc. invites the nomination applications from talented foreign skilled workers. You can opt for the state to apply for the nomination accordingly.

Skilled Independent Subclass 189 Visa

The Skilled independent Subclass 189 Visa does not require any nomination or sponsorship from a state or any family relatives living in Australia. This permanent visa permits candidates to live and work permanently in Australia.

How does the point system in GSM work?

All the candidates have to register their profile and submit EOI (Expression of Interest) in the online SkillSelect System.

The point system assesses the profile of an applicant and afterwards, assign the points to each applicant based on their profile factors, i.e. age, work experience, language proficiency, educational qualification, etc. You also gets points for invitation received from an Australian state.

As an applicant, you have to score at least 60 points based on your profile factors to qualify for GSM. But, to get the Invitation to apply (ITA) for applied GSM Visa, you have to score higher points than just cut off marks.

If you are nominated in the GSM, you will obtain the ITA for your applied visa. You will be required to apply within 60 days of receiving the invitation to apply through GSM program.
